An analysis of 27 years of research into computer education published in Australian Educational Computing

Abstract

Analysis of three decades of publications in Australian Educational Computing (AEC) provides insight into the historical trends in Australian educational computing, highlighting an emphasis on pedagogy, comparatively few articles on educational technologies, and strong research topic alignment with similar international journals. Analysis confirms the cyclical nature of educational research, and the topics of study that have waxed and waned in research popularity, with author contributions and citation rates providing an acknowledgement of the key contributors to computer education research over the past 27 years.

Author Biography

Jason Zagami, Griffith University
Dr Jason Zagami is a lecturer in the school of Education and Professional Studies of Griffith University on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia where he conducts research in cognition, professional learning and expertise, and all aspects of educational technologies – with a current focus on games in education, girls in computing, augmented and virtual reality, neural interfaces, and computing as a school discipline.Jason has many years' of experience in K-12 computer education and has been the recipient of an Outstanding National Achievement by a Teacher and Queensland Computer Educator of the Year awards. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and APAC advisory board member, Google Certified Teacher, president of the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE), past president of the Queensland Society for Information Technology in Education (QSITE), editor of the Australian Educational Computing (AEC) journal, and president of the Australian College of Educators (Gold Coast region).
